Life Is Fragile

This Post  was not the one I had planned for today,  but I received some sad news today.

Sometimes, you get a piece of news that stops you in your tracks.

Someone I have known for a long long time has lost a precious child.

Her beautiful boy was just finishing a wonderful adventure of a gap year overseas and getting ready to come home. He wasn't a baby, he was a young man who was starting to experience the joys of travel and life's incredible experiences. He had just stepped through the door of adulthood.

But he will always be her baby.

No doubt, his Mum, Dad and younger sister were so excited to be having him home in just a couple of weeks after many months away on the other side of the world.

I have had a nephew and a niece complete a gap year and another nephew who is preparing for the same thing and will be leaving shortly.

For an amazing time, no doubt.

To learn about the world, and themselves.

To make new friends, but always remember the old.

To discover new cultures and traditions and to discover so many different and exciting things about the world, and those in it.

I am so sad writing this.  I cannot understand just what the family is going through.

I did not know this boy. I had met him.

I have know his Mum since we were little. But I cannot comprehend her loss.

Her baby boy is coming home but not how he is supposed to.

Although we can't keep them wrapped in cotton wool, sometimes we just really want to :(

I am unsure how to end this today - maybe give an extra hug to someone you love, or send love out to people who are struggling at the moment...

Remember, Life Is Fragile - Please Take Care

My New Career

Now those of you who know me who read this blog know that I have had a couple (ahem!!) of different careers in my working life. I have worked for schools, TAFE, breweries, travel companies, building centre, Historic house (and if you are in Sydney and never been to Eryldene you should go - it really is amazing), councils (mmmm), sporting organisations (must be that mad athletic training that I do), magazine industry amongst others - yes, I am actually 105!

But, I have decided that there may be a new career beckoning. And that is a professional Topiarist (I don't even know if that is a word).

In this latest house we live in we have a number of hedges. In fact the whole driveway is lined with them.
Can you guess which driveway is mine???

And for those regular readers, you will know that Dad was down recently and after doing a bit of clipping ending up in the hospital that night.

But luck would have it that last week ALDI had electric hedge trimmers on sale.

It did take three days to charge the battery, but for $40 I'm not complaining (ok, maybe a little bit). I did a little practice run yesterday but that was only the hedge from the front balcony as it started to rain - I told you we have hedges everywhere.

But I have been out there and trimming everything I can see. I have done the driveway, the hedges at the front fence, all the plants in the front yard , plus a little bit of one of the poles holding up the front deck - oops!!!

Now, I am going to show you a little bit of my handiwork here (scroll down)

So, what do you think?  Would you hire me to topiarise your garden (still unsure if that is a word too)???

Cheers

Oh and p.s. I am sorry if I have a few spelling errors in this post - my bloody hands won't stop shaking from the trimmer
